The mobile showroom: Help after
the earthquake in Christchurch
On 4th September 2010, an earthquake measuring 7.1
on the Richter scale caused massive destruction in Christchurch,
New Zealand. Many buildings collapsed or were
badly damaged, including two that were adjacent to the
restaurant owned by the renowned chef Jonny Schwass (see
p. 40 ff .). The restaurant stayed open, but a severe aftershock
on 22nd February 2011 forced Schwass to close it.
Gaggenau acted quickly to help its cooperation partner
Schwass. Its mobile showroom was immediately dispatched
to New Zealand. In Christchurch the mobile showroom is
now being used as a kitchen for Schwass’ private dinners
and his master cooking courses, as well as an exhibition
room for the Gaggenau partner “Kitchen Things” until new
buildings are constructed for both enterprises.
Bulldozers pulled down
Jonny Schwass’ restaurant — but
Gaggenau is helping out with its
mobile showroom (above).
