94 OPINION NASTY SUPPLIER, NASTY DISTRIBUTOR press colleague wrote in the editorial A of his latest issue about the ongoing accusations that representatives of the industry have been making against each other for years. Nasty suppliers sell directly, nasty distributors import directly. He sums up by saying that it is now time to work together in a professional manner. He is absolutely right! Dreadful: Walter Jung was aware of this phenomenon as early as in the 70s and 80s. So it is high time for a change. But unfortunately change is a process in which nobody moves as long as his own house is not on fire. It could start to burn soon, however, if we do not focus on the important issues. In particular, these include the legal regulations which are often not complied with. When you add poor quality and a lack of knowledge, the industry ’s image is seriously damaged. Time after time cheap USB memory devices, hazardous power banks or rejects appear on the market, legal requirements are ignored again and again, certificates are missing or falsified – the list of violations is frightening and the consequences can be fatal. Currently, only a few cases of this kind are publicised, and they are even more rarely punished by the authorities. Nevertheless, cheap products made using all sorts of tricks hinder fair competition as they are often sold on price. These are the issues which we need to discuss because this is where the industry jeopardises itself.
