www.psi-network.de PSI Journal 1/2016 What should your customers know about the restructure? Due to the new structure, Reeko design will be significantly more competitive. The Asian organisation with its four offices and synergy effects will significantly improve the competitiveness. The distinctive quality management system which is exemplary through the cooperation with many brand manufacturers of the paper, office supplies and stationery sector will also be used in the promotional products industry. As a division of Carstensen GmbH, Reeko design will continue to be a partner of the promotional product distribution sector, as reeko has always been since 2003. The entire sales team, including the longstanding sales manager Martina Odebrecht, is back on board. The contact persons for the growing customer base will therefore remain. What are your plans for the future? I will remain on board for the next two years and mainly take care of the assortment management and analysis. I will also continue to try to establish Eintracht Norderstedt, a football club that plays in the Northerern Regional League, as a third force in Hamburg football. Mr. Köhler, Carstensen Import-Export Handelsgesellschaft mbH (CIMEX) will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2016. What are the core competencies of the company? The company has so far been operating primarily as a reliable import partner for brand manufacturers of the paper, office supplies and stationery industry, distributors and food retailers. With a network of around 100 employees in various countries in Asia and an expertise in sourcing, quality assurance, compliance, logistics and last but not least also in financing that has developed over the years, CIMEX with its associated agencies has been a longstanding partner of many major brands. The safety and reliability of our products, as well as the establishment and expansion of cooperation with our customers, have top priority for us. Cultivating these values has always taken precedence over shortlived business relationships for us. That is why some customer relationships are almost as old as the company itself. In the summer of 2015, reeko Design, one of the best-known German promotional product suppliers, was incorporated into your company. What made you decide to expand your field of business? We’re already present in the promotional products industry on a small scale. Owing to the previous work of me and Martin Pancke (the current directors), we are familiar with the structures and players in the promotional products industry. As for reeko, there was an opportunity to integrate a well-established brand with potential into our portfolio. And besides, the paper, office supplies and stationery industry and the promotional products industry are closely interlinked – you only have to consider the high proportion of writing instruments in the promotional products market. With reeko we have integrated another promising growth market into our group of companies. By taking over a large part of the team, continuity will be maintained. The reeko team is already being supported by competent staff from Carstensen. We see great synergy in this integration – not least through the Asian structure of Carstensen, which we believe can also be very helpful in the area of special requests in the future growth of the promotional product business within CIMEX. How do you see the new corporate structure and the concrete cooperation with reeko Design? Reenald Koch and his team will remain the contact persons for their customers. Reeko Design will remain an independent profit centre and will be supported by the Group in key areas. These include in particular the areas of sourcing and quality development, but also the IT, accounting and product management departments. What synergies will emerge between the core business and the promotional products division? Naturally we see most synergies in import where CIMEX has already worked together with reeko for a long time. The integration means shorter distances, more speed and much greater flexibility. This should already be apparent in the 2016 catalogue of reeko. In addition, there are products in the Group which are regularly sold to other customer groups that would also appeal to the promotional product industry. The product portfolio of CIMEX is no longer confined to the paper, office supplies and stationery industry. There are also approaches to include products from the garden and household segments. As a result of the higher volumes in the core business of CIMEX, new products from this area can be offered at very attractive prices. Moreover, of course, synergies arise in the fields of logistics, IT, accounting and human resources in such a situation. Would you mind briefly introducing the management? The management of Carstensen GmbH consists of the two managing directors, Thorsten Köhler and Martin Pancke, as well as two authorised signatories. Carstensen GmbH is a wholly owned subsidiary of Eurasia Statinvest GmbH, which also owns the majority of Stylex GmbH. While Martin Pancke takes care of branded companies and food retailers at Carstensen GmbH, I am responsible for the areas of e-commerce, promotional products and new business. Marco Reimann, a longstanding employee of the former reeko design GmbH with in-depth knowledge of the promotional products market, is responsible for operations at the Reeko Design division. Reenald Koch is still on board as an advisor to the CIMEX management. As we still see ourselves as a small, flexible unit without corporate structures, despite our company’s size which has developed over the years, the areas of responsibility overlap considerably. < 99
