MITHU SEN Mithu Sen wurde 1971 in West-Bengalen geboren und erhielt ihren BFA und MFA in Malerei in Santiniketan. Sie studierte zusätzlich in Glasgow und arbeitete in New York, Brasilien, China und Kenia. Mithu Sen zählt zu den Shootingstars der indischen Kunstszene, bekannt für ihre Mixed-Media-Arbeiten, die mit den Themen der Sexualität, des Geschlechts und des gesellschaftlichen Rollenverständnisses spielen. Häufig verschmelzen in ihren Figuren menschliche mit tierischen und pflanzlichen Eigenschaften. Sens Werke waren in Einzelausstellungen in der Galerie Nature Morte und dem British Council in Delhi zu sehen sowie in der Galerie Chemould in Mumbai, Bose Pacia in New York, Krinzinger Projekte in Wien und Suzie Q Projects in Zürich. Sie lebt und arbeitet in Delhi. Mithu Sen was born in West Bengal in 1971 and obtained a BFA and an MFA in Painting at Santiniketan. She has additionally studied at Glasgow and worked in New York, Brazil, China and Kenya. Mithu Sen is regarded as a shooting star in the Indian art scene and is known in particular for her mixed media work on the topics of sexuality, gender and the perception of role in society. Human properties are frequently fused with those of animals and plants in her figures. Exhibitions dedicated to Sen’s work have been run by the Nature Morte Gallery and the British Council, both in Delhi, as well as by the Chemould Gallery in Mumbai, Bose Pacia in New York, Krinzinger Projekte in Vienna and Suzie Q Projects in Zurich.
