When visitors step through the entrance door, which
was designed by the famous architect Gio Ponti, they
are greeted with an atmosphere that Christian Kurtzke
describes as ‘discreet European luxury’. The MEIS-
SEN HOME ® Collectibles appeal because of their
timelessly elegant design language and high-quality
materials. As Kurtzke states, ‘This luxury is understated
but contemporary, especially when compared to
the “loud” luxury of the Baroque period’.
As with the jewellery collection by Ornella-Pasquetti,
MEISSEN HOME ® Creative Director Markus
Hilzinger has been inspired by the manufactory’s
design and decorations archive, which is more than
300 years old. Hilzinger explains, ‘The one thing we
realised above all was the huge potential to create a
complete range of furnishings and enable it to be directly
experienced by visitors’. Every piece in the
collection has the same MEISSEN ® DNA, in other

words, it represents a long-standing tradition. In
eight themed rooms, visitors can find inspiration
they need to create their own highly personal décor.
‘Our customers,’ says Hilzinger, ‘are more collectors
than buyers and like to use these pieces to create
their own little castle’.
The VILLA MEISSEN ® also links to its past in
another respect – the fact that it was used as a meeting
place in the 19th century. Kurtzke also wants to make
the villa a place for people to meet: ‘We intend to establish
a variety of events on themes such as art, architecture
and design and bring together interesting people’.
The Villa is thus an international meeting place
and centre for high-quality design with more than
300 years of history behind it. In other words, exactly
the right place for the exquisite combination of art
and handmade luxury that is MEISSEN ® .
